Player display preferences

McProgression separates personal presentation choices from server progression policy. A player can reduce or reorganize feedback on their own client; they cannot change XP, rank, rewards, access, or what other players see.

Current personal preferences

Setting Player choice Server default and control
Skill XP feedback actionbar, chat, or off, independently from General XP player-display.xp-feedback.skill-mode; empty inherits mode
General XP feedback actionbar, chat, or off, independently from Skill XP player-display.xp-feedback.general-mode; empty inherits mode; general-xp.yml: notify-player can hard-disable it
Skill level-up notices Show or hide player-display.announcements.skill-level-up.player-default-enabled
Global Rank notices Show or hide on this player's client player-display.announcements.global-rank-up.player-default-enabled; server recipient/audience remains server-controlled
Global Rank bossbar Show or hide player-display.overlay.default-enabled; requires the server overlay to be enabled

Player choices persist in their Minecraft player data and inherit the server default until explicitly changed. /mcp preferences reset removes personal overrides. The master player-display.preferences.allow-player-customization setting disables player overrides. XP feedback and the bossbar also have their own allow-player-toggle switches. Use /mcp preferences for the chest screen, or the command forms documented in permissions and command UX.

Visible surfaces and decisions

Surface Personal preference? Decision
Skill and General XP awards Yes Independent modes let players silence frequent Skill feedback while keeping occasional General XP, or vice versa. Both merge action-bar updates to avoid spam.
Skill level-up and Global Rank notices Yes Each is independently hideable. A server-wide announcement is sent per recipient, allowing one player to mute their own view without changing other recipients' view.
Rank bossbar Yes It is a personal overlay and can be hidden without changing the rank calculation.
Item requirement tooltips Not per player Tooltips are written into the item lore, so changing them for one viewer would change what every holder sees. Keep their enablement/content server-owned unless a per-client rendering mechanism is added.
Item or world access denial No suppression The attempted action was blocked. Keep the explanation visible so players know why it failed; server owners control the gate and wording.
Configured reward type: message No suppression This message is the reward payload, not a disposable notice. Since the reward claim is one-time, hiding the message could destroy the earned content. A future opt-out would need a mailbox or replayable claim history first. Item and command rewards are always independent of display preferences.
Daily join, streak, and active-time XP No additional per-source toggle They already produce General XP; the General XP preference controls feedback for those awards. Their rate, cap, and eligibility remain server policy.
Command results, import/reset/sync confirmations, audit reports No suppression These are requested results or important account-change confirmations. Keep them visible to the command user.
Operator compatibility alerts No player preference These are permission-targeted operational alerts controlled by server configuration and LuckPerms.
Discord/webhook messages and XP history No player preference These are server-side records/integrations, not client display. Personal display settings must not affect them.
Tablist ranking and Global Rank assignment No player preference These affect shared ordering or progression policy. Per-player overrides would make the server's ranking behavior inconsistent.
Sounds, titles, per-skill mute lists Not available yet Do not add settings for output that does not exist. Revisit only with a concrete display feature and a manageable UI.

Defaults by role

Persona Recommended experience
New or casual player Server defaults: merged action-bar feedback, visible level/rank notices, and the configured bossbar. The menu explains progression without requiring command knowledge.
Experienced or competitive player Independent Skill/General feedback modes and quick notice/bossbar controls. Commands remain available for fast, exact lookup.
Moderator Personal display preferences are separate from LuckPerms tools. Staff menus expose only permitted actions; personal preferences never grant or hide administrative capabilities.
Administrator Investigations, reset confirmations, reports, and history remain visible. Preferences do not alter staff audit trails.
Server owner Choose shared/category XP defaults, initial notice visibility, overlay defaults, and whether players may customize each category. Keep mechanics and shared presentation under server control.

Scope boundary

Player preferences control only what that player sees. XP rates, caps, action eligibility, anti-abuse rules, ranks, reward claims/effects, permissions, discovery policy, leaderboard scopes, tablist ordering, world gates, audit records, and Discord delivery remain server-owned. A personal off choice never turns off an award or reward and never prevents other recipients from seeing an announcement.
